Bio

My practice of psychotherapy in Berkeley is based on the methods that have worked effectively in my own life—Jungian dreamwork, existential-humanistic psychotherapy, yoga, meditation, and Psychosynthesis. I combine these practices with solution-centered counseling to address specific developmental issues, to improve stress coping strategies, and to enhance the enjoyment of work and relationships. I’m committed to therapy as a process that promotes healing, self-actualization, and creative evolution. I’ve sought nothing less from my own personal psychotherapy, which I’ve continued over decades.
Psychotherapy in Berkeley
I’m a lecturer in psychology at Sonoma State University and teach in the counseling psychology program at CIIS. Previously I taught in the counseling psychology programs at John F. Kennedy University, Dominican University, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, and in the New York Open Center’s Holistic Psychology program. I’m a graduate of Wesleyan University (B.A., 1979), California Institute of Integral Studies (M.A., 1988), and Saybrook University (Ph.D, 1992); Board Certified Professional Counselor, and member of American Psychotherapy Association; California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists; and International Association for the Study of Dreams. I’m also a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco, where I received my yoga teacher training and certification.
Spiritual Depth Psychology
My books include Dreamwork in Holistic Psychotherapy of Depression (Karnac Books, 2017), Dreamwork and Self-Healing (Karnac, 2009), and In the Company of Sages (Inner Traditions, 2015)—both available from Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Powells.com.
My writings have appeared in The American Journal of Psychotherapy, Journal of Humanistic Psychology, Journal of Transpersonal Psychology, California Therapist, Journal of the Society for the Study of Dreams, and Yoga Journal. I’m a lifelong meditator, runner, yoga practitioner, and jazz musician. All of these practices and disciplines infuse my work.
