Bio
A native of New York City, I relocated to the Bay Area in 1986 and attended California Institute of Integral Studies (M.A., 1988), and Saybrook University (Ph.D, 1992), as well as the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco, where I received my yoga teacher training and certification. I’ve been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 1991. I’m a lecturer in psychology at Sonoma State University, where I teach Depth-Oriented Psychotherapies; Psychology of Yoga; Myth, Dream, and Symbol; and Transitions in Adult Development. Previously I taught for 20 years in the counseling psychology programs at California Institute of Integral Studies, John F. Kennedy University’s Graduate School of Holistic Studies, Dominican University, Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, and in the New York Open Center’s Holistic Psychology program. I’m a lifelong meditator, runner, yoga practitioner, and jazz musician. All of these practices and disciplines infuse my work.
Psychotherapy in Berkeley
My practice of psychotherapy is based on methods that have worked effectively in my own life—Jungian dreamwork, existential-humanistic psychotherapy, hatha yoga and meditation, and Psychosynthesis (developed by Dr. Roberto Assagioli). My approach to therapy is to shine a light on present developmental challenges and tasks, and to help you develop effective stress coping strategies. I’m committed to therapy as a process that promotes healing and wholeness, actualization of our innate talents and potentials, enhances the enjoyment of work and relationships, and unleashes creativity. I’ve sought nothing less from my own personal psychotherapy, which I’ve continued over decades.
Spiritual Depth Psychology
My writings have appeared in The American Journal of Psychotherapy, Journal of Humanistic Psychology, Journal of Transpersonal Psychology, California Therapist, Journal of the Society for the Study of Dreams, and Yoga Journal. I have written several books, including Dreamwork in Holistic Psychotherapy of Depression (Routledge, 2017), Dreamwork and Self-Healing (Routledge, 2009), and In the Company of Sages (Inner Traditions, 2015)—all available from Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Powells.com.
